Today I had the pleasure of visiting the Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary in Sarasota which is home to lions, tigers, bears and much much more. The animals who live there have all been given to the Big Cat Habitat. Many belonged to people who didn't realize the challenge of keeping a wild animal as a pet. One of the most humbling moments for me was sitting down looking into the big round eyes of a stunning, surprisingly relaxed liger. Before my visit to the Big Cat Habitat, I had never seen a liger (a hybrid offspring of a male lion and a female tiger). She had complex human-like eyes, eyes which communicated deep understanding and feeling. I'm not one to humanize animals, with the exception of our family's house-cat, 'Mickey', of course. It is without question that this beautiful animal most certainly has a soul. Take a look at these photos of her and see for yourself.
