More video, more engagement!

It may come as no surprise but consumption of mobile video via smartphones has increased exponentially in recent years. The total consumption of mobile video has increased by 10 million daily viewing minutes across the globe over the last two years according to the Internet Trends Report 2018. The fact is that consumers want the most information for the least amount of their time, that said quality still counts. A produced video not only allows marketers to deliver more information to their audiences in less time, but also to drive engagement

43% of B2C marketers say pre-produced video is the most successful type of content for marketing purposes.

We know algorithms like the one Facebook uses to decide what user content to post on news-feeds, largely favor video. This is because social media platforms know that their users want more video content. In a 2018 survey by HubSpot, 54% of consumers reported they wanted to see more video content from a brand or business they support. Consumers also want to see their favorite companies or people go live! When it comes to a brand's audience they will engage more if they see it go live! If going live seems intimidating start with pre-produced video, that video will still get more engagement than text and image posts!

Live videos on Facebook have an engagement rate of 4.3% compared to ordinary videos which have 2.2%.

Making produced videos can sound a bit intimidating, however with the right attitude and a few helpful pieces of gear anyone can get started. Most smartphones cameras have a camera good enough to get going shooting basic 4k. Use an app like FilmicPro to help setup the camera's exposure, shutter speed, and record settings. The app will make sure the video is exported in the highest possible quality. The next thing that will help ensure a video's quality is recording quality sound - covered in my last blog post. This can be done easily & cost effectively with several mic option including on camera, or lapel microphones. The last piece of gear needed is a tripod so that the camera/phone can be mounted securely while filming. Tripods can also allow more creative shots, (I will be writing a blog post on this topic soon so stay tuned). Moral of the story today is that with a bit of practice, and some simple gear, anyone can be engaging more with thier consumers through amazing videos.
